The Moscow Meshchansky Court sentenced the former Deputy Minister of Energy Anatoly Tikhonov to 5 years 4 months in prison for multi-million dollar theft, RIA Novosti reported.

Tikhonov was arrested in September 2020. According to investigators, he organized the theft of over 600 million rubles allocated for the creation of a state information system for the fuel and energy complex (GIS TEK) during the years when he headed the Russian Energy Agency under the Ministry of Energy (2013–2019; then he became Deputy Minister of Energy) . A RIA Novosti source reported that later new episodes appeared in the case: another 100 million rubles. Tikhonov stole during the supply of equipment under two government contracts, the investigation believed. Thus, the total damage exceeded 700 million rubles.

In 2022, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Vladimir Kolokoltsev, without naming a name, said that the security forces had convicted the former deputy minister of energy of receiving bribes worth 227 million, citing sources wrote “Kommersant”. “The funds were transferred through intermediaries using current accounts in foreign banks and were intended to assist in concluding government contracts,” the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

RBC sources called Tikhonov a close associate of former Energy Minister Alexander Novak. They worked together in the government of the Krasnoyarsk Territory from 2003 to 2008. Tikhonov did not admit guilt and called himself a victim of settling scores.
